I have an old Betty Crocker cookbook that I swear by. When I moved out of my mother’s house I tried to buy a new one and realized to my dismay that most of the recipes were different and some were even missing. This led to a long cat and mouse game of my mother and I stealing the original cookbook back and forth from each other. I have a hard enough time to remember to clean the extra sheets when I have company coming but you better believe I’d remember to hide my cookbook after the first few times it was kidnapped. I did finally find the same version¬†on eBay so we no longer have to steal it from each other but it does make for a good story. This is one of the recipes from that book that I couldn’t live without and for some reason it’s not in the new books or even on the Betty Crocker website.

stroganoffIngredients:

  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onion (about 1 medium onion)
  • 1/4 cup Butter or Margarine
  • 2 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Garlic Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 can (4oz) Mushroom Stems and Pieces, drained
  • 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • Egg Noodles

Directions:

  1. Prepare noodles per package directions
  2. Cook ground beef, onion, and butter until beef is browned
  3. Add flour, salt, garlic salt, pepper, and mushrooms
  4. Cook stirring constantly for 5 minutes
  5. Add soup and heat until boiling stirring constantly
  6. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes
  7. Stir in sour cream and heat through
  8. Serve over (or mixed in to) noodles
